Splitgate 2 Open Beta Date Revealed with Huge New Feature

1047 Games has announced the release date for the Splitgate 2 open beta which includes more content than the game's alpha.

If you haven't guessed yet I'm a huge FPS fan. So what’s my most anticipated multiplayer shooter this year? It’s not Bungie’s Marathon the next Call of Duty, or Remedy’s FBC Firebreak. It's Splitgate 2. Soon you will get the chance to try it and join me in my portal obsession. The release date for the Splitgate 2 open beta is out and it comes with the exciting promise of infinite maps.

The original Splitgate was fun to play with its mix of Halo-like shooting and portal mechanics. However as a small indie project. it didn't have enough content or infrastructure to keep me fully engaged. Splitgate 2 though seems to have fixed that. It's using Unreal Engine 5 adding some hero shooter features and includes lots of game modes. I played the open alpha earlier this year and really enjoyed it even though I was worried that adding classes and abilities might take away from the unique portal mechanic.

With Splitgate 2 is coming later this year and 1047 Games is offering a new chance to try it out with an open beta. The beta will include new content as well.

Splitgate 2 will have over 25 weapons including the new Borealis an energy carbine power weapon. There will be more than ten game modes including Takedown from the original Splitgate. In Takedown you must eliminate the enemy team before their respawn timers run out and put them back in the game.

The map pool is growing too. 1047 says there will be more than 15 traditional maps across all game modes but hints at an infinite number of maps. The open beta teaser trailer suggests there might be a custom map editor which is very exciting.

The Splitgate 2 open beta starts on Thursday May 22. 1047 Games has not said how long it will last. It will be available on PC PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Players on all platforms can play together.
