Canceled Amazon MMO Blue Protocol Revived Coming Soon

Blue Protocol Star Resonance brings back the MMO game that Bandai Namco and Amazon closed and it will come out earlier than we thought.

I love colorful fantasy anime styles but I never really got into games like Genshin Impact. Maybe it’s because of the gacha system or the many confusing terms. I couldn’t stick with any of HoYoverse’s big games. That’s why I was excited about Blue Protocol. Amazon said it would be an MMO focused on a fantastical journey with story as the main part of the game. But it didn’t happen. In August 2024 Amazon cancelled the Western release of Blue Protocol and Bandai Namco Online said the game would stop running in Japan in January 2025.

Blue Protocol seemed to disappear but now it’s back. While Bandai and Amazon were getting ready to launch the original game, a Chinese company called Shanghai Bokura Network Technology was making a new version called Project Sky Blue. This new game focused more on action is called Blue Protocol: Star Resonance. It had several test runs in late 2024 and 2025. So Blue Protocol is back but it’s different from before.

Star Resonance takes place in Regnas the same world as Blue Protocol but with a new story. You’ll explore a beautiful anime-style world fight huge bosses with your team and improve your gear like in an MMO. The game has a big open world full of dungeons and raids that are meant to be played with others similar to Final Fantasy 14.

You can change how your characters look and how they fight. It’s not sure if the old Blue Protocol classes will come back (the Twin Striker was cool). You can pick from Heavy Guardian, Stormblade, Wind Knight, Marksman, Frost Mage, Verdant Oracle and Shield Knight. Each class plays differently and has different armor. More classes will come soon and I hope the monk-like Twin Blades show up. I’m really hoping for that.

If you spend most of your time in FF14 relaxing in Limsa or making your character look nice Star Resonance is made to bring people together. It has trading guilds and special events for players to enjoy as a community. In the trailer there’s a sweet scene where everyone sits around a small fire and I know that’s where I’ll want to hang out too.

We don’t know much about Blue Protocol: Star Resonance yet. But Shanghai Bokura Network Technology said it will come out in 2025. If you’re excited like me You can add it to your wishlist here.
