Company of Heroes 3 had issues when it first came out but a major update from Relic and a big discount are trying to turn things around.
Company of Heroes 3 makes even small moments feel intense. In most real-time strategy games like Command and Conquer or Age of Empires the fun comes from big attacks. But in CoH just sending one squad into a building can start a huge fight. The game doesn’t just play well it sounds great too. The guns explosions and soldiers shouting all add to the feeling of being in a real battle. Two years after its quiet launch a big update has helped turn the game around. And now it is selling for half price if you want to try it.
When Company of Heroes 3 came out in 2023 people had some big complaints. Battle groups didn’t feel fair, the interface was too small and tricky and some units had too many abilities. All of this made the game harder to enjoy. Some of these issues are part of how the game works. So they are hard to fix. But the developer Relic has tried to listen to feedback. In February they released a big update for the games anniversary. Now the maps battle groups and building systems have all been improved.
The new Company of Heroes 3 update mainly focuses on the Mignano map. This map has two versions: Summit and Gap. Even though eight other maps were updated Mignano is the main highlight.
Relic said the 3v3 version of the map didn’t work well. It was too crowded had too many tight spaces and once someone took the high ground. it was hard to fight back. For the games second anniversary they decided to redesign Mignano Summit with a new plan for how it should look and play.
Mignano's green fields are now full of craters and burning rubble to make it look destroyed. Walls that used to block movement are gone. So players have more ways to move around. Many buildings that troops could enter have also been removed to make the game flow better. Relic also cut down the parts of the map you can't reach. The playable area is still the same but removing extra scenery should help the game run smoother.
Maps like Angovile Crossing The Woods Langres, Pachino Stalemate, Semois, Longstop Hill, Black Gold and Sousse Wetlands have been updated. Relic also fixed some of the most annoying parts of CoH 3. Field defenses can be built faster landmines do half the damage if spotted and artillery units shoot more often. Craters now give better cover in multiplayer because their depth is the same everywhere.
Relic has updated and rebalanced 17 battle groups from various nations. For example the King Tiger tank in the Terror group is tougher to destroy with more health and the Wehrmacht's Panzergrenadier squad now deals more damage at short to mid-range.
