The original Endzone is a hidden gem. It combines elements of Fallout Cities Skylines and Banished letting you manage a survival settlement after the world ends. With detailed systems beautiful steampunk visuals, and a mix of relaxing and intense gameplay Endzone became a popular PC game. However the sequel Endzone 2 has had some challenges. Its foundation is solid and recent updates have made important improvements. But after six months the game is still finding its way. Matthias Guntrum head of the developer Gentlymad, admits that there’s room to grow. He talks about how the game is working on a comeback in an exclusive interview with Gamefusionusa.

It’s not all bad. In fact, the user ratings for Endzone 2 are improving. Based on reviews from the last 30 days. the strategy game has earned a mostly positive rating on Steam. However Guntrum and the team at Gentlymad know that players aren’t completely happy. Some fans think Endzone 2 is too much like the first game to be worth a sequel while others feel it’s too different and loses what made the first game good. Right now Gentlymad is focused on finding a balance between these different views.

We wanted to make a great sequel and include features players asked for in Endzone. However some players feel that Endzone 2 is very different from the first game says Guntrum. This change in gameplay has surprised some returning players and we know not everyone expected it. We are working on this by slowly bringing back familiar features from the first game while still keeping the main idea of Endzone 2.

Endzone 2 is more complex than the original game. It now feels more like a factory simulation with deeper building logistics and economy systems. You can also create bigger settlements. The RPG aspect is stronger too. You can fix up an old bus and drive around the wasteland searching for places to build new towns. The game is trying to be what Gentlymad and its fans want and Guntrum says it’s all about finding the right balance.

Our goal is to balance what returning players loved with the new features we have added he says. There's still room to improve like making the UI easier for new players. Adding things like multiplayer co-op or a story mode would make the game more fun to play again. Overall Endzone 2 improves on the first game but there is still a lot of potential to grow.

In 2025 strategy games and city builders are changing a lot. There’s a lot of competition so it’s not just about building cities or managing resources anymore. Now it's about adding new ideas interesting settings and fun gameplay changes.

What's next? How do you improve a game that's doing okay but still has issues? If a game fails badly it's easy to see what needs fixing just put out the fire. But making small improvements and changes takes more time and effort. Still Gentlymad has a plan.

A new update for Endzone 2 has arrived. It brings more tools for building new structures and some new gameplay features. Radiation is a big issue now but there are new ways to clean it up before settling in affected areas. Sandstorms can damage buildings, and you can make and sell beer and drugs at a new bar to keep your citizens happy. But disease outbreaks can put people in the hospital and you must decide how much you want to spend on their care will you be kind or strictly practical?

There's more to come. Something big is planned for the future says Guntrum. It's something Endzone fans have been waiting for since the launch. He can't reveal what it is yet but it should be an important part of Endzone 2's return.

Guntrum isn’t sure what exactly that is. Even though there’s a lot of competition in strategy games right now and it faced some struggles in August Endzone 2 still seems like it could be as successful or even more successful than the first game.
