The Rust Jungle update is here adding a new jungle biome with new plants and dangerous animals to the popular survival game on Steam.
The Rust Jungle update shows how hard the team at Facepunch Studios has worked. Even after more than ten years since its launch Rust is still one of the top games on Steam with hundreds of thousands of players every day. While games like Ark Valheim and Once Human have their highlights Rust stays steady and popular partly because of its regular updates. Now it’s adding the first new biome since Rust’s world generation feature was introduced.
The new jungle region is a part of the temperate coastal area where new Rust characters first appear. It's flatter than other areas with lots of plants and more rivers. This makes survival different because there’s more cover but it also helps enemies hide. The plants here include new types like bromeliads, monstera, arrowroot and calathea.
Tall trees surround you including the huge kapok tree with vines that let you climb and swing to cover large areas quickly. You can chop down these trees for wood but the stump stays and the tree grows back after a while. As you explore the area you'll come across various buildings and monuments like old ruins and the mysterious stone Ziggurat. What secrets might it hide?
The thick brush is good for hiding but you're not the only one using it. The tiger is one of the most dangerous animals in Rust. It moves quietly from behind and attacks only when it's sure it will kill. A small mistake in the jungle can be deadly. There's also the rare black panther which is harder to see. But don't worry the game gives you three clues to let you know if something is stalking you So the attacks don't feel unfair.
Be careful where you walk. If you step on a snake you could get bitten. Listen for a warning hiss and you can jump away to avoid being struck. When looking for water be careful near rivers. Crocodiles are strong fast and dangerous. They won’t bother you if you leave them alone but if you cause trouble they might attack.
If you get into trouble Facepunch has added new tools to help you fight back like boomerangs and blowpipes. The blowpipe has different types of ammo including ones that can confuse or poison your target. Defeating these creatures gives you new types of meat and the snake also drops venom that can be used to make more blow darts.
