During Summer Game Fest Techland showed a 30-minute gameplay video for their new zombie RPG Dying Light: The Beast. Near the end the main character Kyle Crane talks on the radio to a mysterious person named Olivia and tells her he has finished an important mission. Samantha Beart who plays Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3 says the voice of Olivia sounds like hers but she told Gamefusionusa that she was never officially cast for the role.

In an interview (coming next week) Beart says they like to change a lot in their roles and appear where people don’t expect them. I asked about their part in Dying Light: The Beast because they showed up at the end of the game demo. They laughed and said That’s a funny question. I have no idea what’s happening.

Beart said they got a call asking Can we use you in the trailer? They asked Am I in the game too? But the answer was No you’re only in the trailer. So Beart appears just in the last minute of the trailer while a different actor plays the rest of the game.

This is how the industry works. If you don’t do well in testing they can replace you and that’s normal. I don’t really know what is happening. I’m not involved in the game anymore but they used me in the gameplay trailer. They said they would give me credit but now things have become more complicated.

Beart thinks their voice was used in a preview version of the game shown to the press at Summer Game Fest. They laugh and say Maybe they just didn’t like me. Some companies share more about their work than others. It’s a bit strange but it’s still a nice thing to have on their resume.

Gamefusionusa has reached out to Techland and will update this article when we hear back.
