The Horror at Highrook: Eerie Card Game Gets Release Date Coming Soon

Combining Lovecraftian horror, card-based puzzles and a heavy story, the new RPG The Horror at Highrook is coming to Steam very soon.

Even though the sun is out and Starbucks is offering its summer iced drinks. I found myself wandering into that macabre pit again. From quirky graphic novels to the tiny Candela Obscura to my team of paranormal investigators. for some reason the spring of 2025 feels closer to fall than anything else. Then what better way to kick off my summer of horror than with The Horror at Highrook, a card-based, narrative-driven RPG where puzzle solving and investigation are the name of the game.

Highrook stands alone at the top of a jagged cliff casting its shadow on the flowing water below. The old house of the mysterious Akron family an aristocratic house that was associated with all things occult has been left to rot after their unexplained disappearance. At the request of the town council. you and your team of investigators are sent to uncover its secrets and expose the horrors that haunt Highrook.

Part card game and part puzzle game, Highrook is a story-driven RPG experience, in which you're tasked with collecting various card combinations as you move around the manor. At first glance it reminds me of Cluedo or other mysterious board games your team splits up explores the various rooms of the house and looks for clues.

You have four different magical specialists: the tech focused Mechanist the terrifying Plague Doctor the bookish Scholar and the rough-and-ready Rogue. Each has their own specific skill set, so you will have to make sure you deploy them in the areas they're best at.

But you will also have to keep an eye on them. As you delve deeper into Highrook and face Lovecraftian-inspired enemies their psyches will begin to weaken. Before they get caught up in the chaos make sure they are mentally and physically healthy, otherwise who knows what might happen.

Completing the challenges in each room will open up different areas of the board, where you will find new areas, characters, and items. You will be able to craft new equipment for the more physically capable members of your team while your more magical companions will be able to use various spots of dark magic to escape the manor's monsters just make sure they do not become one of the monsters themselves. The Horror at Highrook will be released on Thursday May 1 but you can play the first chapter on Steam now.
