A new Deadlock update has arrived in Valve's MOBA game. It adds new items changes the shop and includes hero balance updates and movement improvements.
If you haven’t played Deadlock in a while now is a great time to come back. The new update is so big that it feels like a brand-new game even for regular players. The biggest change is how the in-game shop works but there’s a lot more. Items have been completely redesigned more items have been added and there are changes to movement and game balance. The game also looks much better now making it feel closer to a full release.
I was surprised by how well Deadlock worked. Valve did a great job combining elements from hero shooters like Overwatch 2 and Marvel Rivals with the style of MOBAs like League of Legends and Dota 2. The game feels fresh and fun with a nice mix of strategy and skill. But it’s still early in development, and it makes sense that Valve hasn’t fully released it yet there’s still a lot that needs to be finished.
The new Deadlock patch is a big improvement. Right away you’ll see that everything looks much better. There’s a new base design and clear unique icons for items making it feel more like a finished game. The biggest gameplay change is the shop which has been completely updated with many new items and combos.
The item slots have been changed. Before each tree had its own slots but that was too limiting So now all slots are the same. You get 12 slots instead of the old 16. Tier bonuses don’t come from each item anymore but from how much you spend in each tree. These bonuses don’t increase in a straight line. So it's not always best to stick to just one tree. You’ll unlock the third flexible slot after defeating two enemy walkers and the last one after you beat the base guardians.
To help you create loadouts for your favorite Deadlock characters. the tools for making and finding builds have been completely updated. You can now choose the order to sell items when they’re not needed and mark some items as optional. You can also add up to three tags to each build so others can easily find ones that match their play style or skill level.
Out on the field a lot has changed. Many buildings look different some are shorter and new ropes and wider doors help you move around more easily. Wall jumps and slides work better now you can control your jumps more especially at lower speeds. How you move also changes how hard you bounce off walls. Getting tired from wall jumps now only makes you go lower. So you can still move around but not climb straight up tall walls as easily.
Claiming Soul Orbs now gives you ammo. It's also more reliable now even if you have lag thanks to clearer visual effects. However they won’t be collected automatically when they hit walls or objects anymore. The camera has also been improved to avoid getting blocked and objects that get in the way will now fade out more smoothly.
There are a lot of balance changes including many hero adjustments. Shields are now called Barriers and work differently. The zipline boost speed has been reduced and it takes longer to use again. Debuff resistance now has diminishing returns upgraded items will keep their cooldowns instead of resetting them and the dash slow cap has increased from -40% to -50% to make it easier to catch fast opponents.
This is one of the biggest updates to Deadlock since the game was first released. If you have been thinking about coming back now is the perfect time. If you were hoping for a more polished experience this update brings that. And if you were worried about not keeping up with changes this update resets everything giving both new and old players a fresh start.
The Deadlock shop update is now available. You can check out the full patch notes from Valve for all the changes.
