The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has made some players see Skyrim's smithing in a new way. Some even think the game is better without it and say it shouldn't be in The Elder Scrolls 6.
Aside from all the fun guesses and leaks before the reveal one of the coolest things about the new Oblivion remaster is how it’s affecting Elder Scrolls fans who only played Skyrim. Oblivion was popular. but Skyrim is much bigger and more well-known. So it’s been fun to see how people react to the older game.
Many players are now seeing that Oblivion is actually better than Skyrim in some ways. This is mainly because it gives players more freedom and doesn’t guide them as much. For example Skyrim has a Smithing system but Oblivion doesn’t. Some people think it’s better that way.
Why Many Players Prefer the Absence of Smithing in Oblivion
In Skyrim Smithing is a skill that lets you make your own weapons and armor using materials. But in Oblivion there is no Smithing. You have to find weapons and armor, then fix them with Repair Hammers.
On the Oblivion subreddit a user named -Nimzo- said they don’t miss smithing. Without it. they feel more encouraged to explore dungeons for loot and check what vendors are selling. They like this change so much they hope smithing isn’t in The Elder Scrolls 6 or that it works differently.
The post has a lot of upvotes and is very popular but not everyone agrees. Many players say they liked Smithing in Skyrim and don’t want it removed in The Elder Scrolls 6. They think it just needs some changes.
Some people say they don’t mind it missing from Oblivion since the two games are different. but they did like it in Skyrim. While opinions on the mechanic vary most agree that Oblivion works well without it and that the extra encouragement to explore is a good addition.
